The family-owned books manufacturing business is run by founder Chiranji Lal Goyal, his son Price Goyal and grandson Ramit Goyal.

Prince Goyal, the second generation of the family-owned business, said, “We have been printing on pre-owned printing presses and all are from Heidelberg. Thus, we trust Heidelberg printing presses, and our team members are familiar with the machine and its functionality. And the service support from the Heidelberg team is commendable. ”

He added that the company felt a brand-new printing press was the need of the hour because publishers want better printing quality and faster delivery time, which is possible only with a new printing press.

“So, we installed the new Heidelberg CX 92  machine last year. We have completed 1.6 million impressions since its installation. The new press has helped reduce the consumption of raw materials too. Heidelberg is the best in terms of runability and robustness. Brand matters, especially when you approach a new customer,” Goyal said.

Goyal Offset Works was established by Goyal’s father, Chiranji Lal Goyal, in 1978 in Dera Bassi, Punjab. Later, the production facility was shifted to GT Karnal Industrial Area, Delhi in 400-sqyd factory. At that time, it had six printing presses in the factory.

Goyal joined the business in 1995 after completing his graduation from Rajdhani College. “Earlier, I used to come to see the activities in the factory to learn the process. After joining the business full-time, I studied the market trends. People were asking for better quality and higher speed. To meet the demand, we bought Heidelberg CP Tronic and Control,” Goyal said.

As business grew and the requirement for greenfield expansion arose, the company shifted to Kundli to the current plant.

Goyal explained, “We have a five lakh-sqft working area here. We have three eight-colour machines, one ten-colour, and four four-colour machines, all are Heidelberg. We can manufacture 80,000-90,000 books in a 24-hour production cycle. We work for all major publishers in Delhi-NCR.”

Right now, the company manufactures 60,000 paperback books and 10,000 hardcover books. “We have less demand for hardbound books. We can manufacture books from 1 to 70-mm spine width,” he added.

On average, the company’s print run is 1,000 to 50,000 copies per title. “We outsource short-run jobs. We have plans for short-run books too as and when there is a demand,” he said.

The Speedmaster CX 92 can cater to a maximum print size of 650×940-mm . The press has a maximum format of 640×920-mm with a gripper margin of 10-mm to 12-mm.

He added that the company has a fully-equipped factory, from pre-press to final books. It has two CTP machines in-house which can produce 250 printing plates for 12-hour production.

With a team of more than 350 workers, the company is growing at a CAGR of more than 20%.

Goyal sees substantial growth happening in the books segment, at least for the next two to three decades. “Today, pricing is not a problem if you work with good publishers. They want quality production and faster delivery,” he said.

Up next, there are multiple things on cards but the company may go for another Heidelberg printing press soon. The Goyal family will visit Drupa 2024 and will make decisions for further investments after the exhibition.
