The book, Untold Stories of Indian Label Industry, is a 320-page coffee table book that chronicles the history of the Indian label industry, tracing its evolution from its early stages to the sector it is today. The book features success stories and profiles of industry leaders. It also recognises the contributions of the next generation and women.

The book was launched at the HP stand at Labelexpo in the presence of members of the Label Manufacturers Association of India (LMAI), and many of Sahni’s well-wishers. During the launch, Sahni said, “This book has many untold stories that can be a source of inspiration for the next generations.”

Sahni’s relationship with writing began during his school years when he penned his first story, but he was hesitant to share it for fear of rejection. His passion for documenting history took form in 1986 with The Story of Ink, which captured the development of paper and ink through the ages — all without the digital conveniences of today.

The book, priced at Rs 3,750; will be available at the Weldon Celloplast stand (E8) throughout Labelexpo 2024

His first breakthrough came in the late 1990s when Andy Thomas, editor of Label and Labeling published his article on labels in the magazine, marking the start of his journey as an author.

By the early 2000s, Sahni was contributing columns to Packaging South Asia at the invitation of editor Naresh Khanna. His influence expanded in 2006 when Roger Pellow of Labelexpo invited him to present – The History of Labels in India – at the Mumbai Label Summit.

At the event, Sahni spoke about his journey in documenting the industry’s milestones. “This book is a tribute to everyone who has contributed to making the Indian label industry what it is today,” he said.

The book, priced at Rs 3,750; will be available at the Weldon Celloplast stand (E8) throughout Labelexpo 2024. Additionally, LMAI members who present their ID at the LMAI stand are entitled to one complimentary copy.
