For starts, there was the grand announcement that "print impressions by HP Indigo printers has breached the one billion mark in 2015". A Appadurai, the country manager, digital press & inkjet business solutions, GSB, HP Inc India said, "HP records one billion plus print impressions from its Indigo printers."

Appadurai highlighted the print segments that HP’s Indigo printers cater to in India with photo albums having the maximum share. Appadurai also pointed out that India is the only country which can boast of all series of the Indigo presses from Series 1 to Series 4.

Appadurai showcased the award winning work which has been produced by its HP Indigo customers in India. This included many of the award winners at the PrintWeek India Awards. The reasons according to him, was the go-to-market approach which was possible due to the diversity of the media range, special inks and effects, security features, environment-friendly printing options etc.

Meanwhile, HP introduced Michael Boyle to the 200 delegates at the HP show that included customers, channel partners and HP staff, as the new head of HP GSB (graphics services business) for the Asia Pacific and Japan region.

The change is timed alongside HP's pre-Drupa thrust into labels and packaging, which has seen traction in the region.

The manufacturer now supplies digital flexo and corrugated printers, and in 2016, expects to see the fruit of its collaboration with KBA.

In his presentation, Boyle made three points.

One was the 57% growth in India with the Latex 300 Series (FY14 – FY15) plus the multi-installations of industrial Latex machines with two Indian customers.

The former Oce man also spoke about how PageWide with its proven HP PageWide Technology that powers the HP inkjet web presses technology can prove to be "a game changer" for the Indian market.

Boyle felt the transformation in India will be felt in Tier–2 and Tier–3 cities which will "contribute 49 per cent of the urban GDP by 2030 as per the McKinsey Global Institute research."

“Our pre-Drupa event will be in Israel in March, where we will keep the momentum of DScoop going by holding Dscoop5 and sharing with our customers what we are doing at Drupa,” he added.

Boyle while speaking to exclusively to PrintWeek India one day prior to the HP show, said, "This Drupa, in my mind, is going to be a very important milestone for HP. After May 2016, digital print is going to be considered as a mainstream business."
