Hyderabad’s PCRI celebrates packaging on 24 March

Hyderabad-based Packaging Clinic and Research Institute celebrated World Packaging Day on 24 March at its campus.

Karna BK, director-PCRI, said, “24 March has been celebrated as Packaging Day by packaging professionals every year since 2006. It was decided to extend the celebrations beyond its national borders and launch World Packaging Day in 2012. This year is the sixth edition of World Packaging Day.”

PCRI awarded with certificates to Suresh N, Sagar Datti and P Shiva Reddy, the toppers of the post graduate diploma in packaging course.

During the day, PCRI along with Packaging Club, a Facebook group of more than 13,000 members, announced Packaging Appreciation Award 2016, for promoting the packaging profession. The award was offered to Rahul Jasani, Emaa Doo, and Wu Ailsa for their active participation in the group.

The packaging students from PCRI, JNGP and Loyola participated in the celebrations.

Avinash Talwar, senior director, Dr Reddy’s, said, “The packaging industry plays a very important role in industrial and economic development of the country. In the era of retail world, packaging not only protects the product but also plays a vital role in terms of attraction, communication and brand promotion. It also gives value addition, brings cost reduction and enhances the shelf-life of any commodity goods.”

Prof SK Sood, food scientist, said “The Indian packaging industry is growing at 14-15% annually, and this growth rate is expected to double in the next two years. The Indian packaging industry is USD 16 billion and the packaging professionals are doing excellent job to protect the product, serve the consumer and meaning life for the society and environment.”

More than 100 delegates including faculties and students from JNGP, Loyola Academy and PCRI and packaging professionals from various companies attended the event.
