IIP alumni celebrates World Packaging Day

IIP alumni had celebrated the third edition of World Packaging Day on 24 March 2014. The event was attended by 119 packaging professionals from 80 different industries in Hyderabad.

BK Karna, director, PCRI, said, “As a packaging technologist we have got great task of balancing the product requirement without hearting environment. Therefore we must dedicate ourselves to sustainable and green packaging while optimizing materials used in order to leave behind a better world for our next generation. Growth of the packaging industry is a growth indicator of any country’s economy. It is imperative to create more awareness about different forms of packaging and industry in the society to encourage our youth to take up packaging as a profession.”

World Packaging Day had initiated in 2012 with the active support of various associations like IIPAA, Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), Andhra Pradesh Plastic Manufacturers Association (APPMA), Andhra Pradesh Corrugation Box Manufacturers’ Association (APCBMA) and various industries.

BK Karna has given the presentation on the Importance of World Packaging Day and Role of Packaging Professionals for Society and Environment. Barun Dey had highlighted the significance of Packaging day. Five converters and user indicators had been appreciated during the event.

Indian packaging industry is currently valued at Rs 650 billion (US$13.5 billion) and is expected to grow to INR 825 billion (US$17 billion) by 2015-17.
