Eight Indian firms bring home 10 awards at Fespa 2015

While Indian print firms failed to strike ‘gold’ at the Fespa Awards 2015, it certainly did the country proud with a handful of silver and bronze medals in various application categories.

The winners of the 2015 Awards were announced at Fespa’s Gala Celebration Dinner held at Flora Köln, Cologne, Germany on 19 May 2014.
 
Total eight Indian companies took home 10 awards, with Ahmedabad-based Marvel Graphic Studio clinching three of them. Marvel won a Silver in the category, ‘Original Serigraphies and Giclées’, a Bronze in the category ‘Fine Art’ and another Bronze in the category ‘Posters, single sheets & multi-sheets’.
 
Winning at Fespa is special as the work is recognised and appreciated on a global platform and representing India is an amazing feeling. All the jobs produced at Marvel have strong content, aesthetic value, and cultural value attached to it. The serigraphs that won is titled By The Sea by Natu Parikh. 

Winning an award for the Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge limited edition serigraphs for its quality and production is exciting and something we cherish. This was our first collaboration with Yash Raj Films. The element of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is a print fusion of pop art and cultural values of India and Kolkata. 
 
We produce the serigraphs which match the auction quality, investment value. The content is Indian yet appeals to International audience. The next year we will enter to win the Gold. 
Chaitya Shah, Marvel Graphic Studio
In the ‘Posters, single sheets & multi-sheets’ category, Spectrum Scan won a Silver. It was a Silver for Perfect Packaging in the category ‘Special Effect Printing’ while in ‘Special Effect Garment Printing’ category, the Silver went to Tarun Printing Works.
 
Our entry in the Poster category, Eon, is screen printed reverse on 500 micron PC sheet with 12 colours including mirror ink. Over it four different UV varnishes are used to create a dazzling patterns.
Amit Shah, Spectrum Scan
Pramukh Embroidery won a Bronze in the category ‘T-shirts’ and Om Decals won a Bronze in the category ‘Glass & Ceramic’. It was a Silver for Protolab Electro Technologies in the ‘Miscellaneous’ category.  Neat Graphics got a Bronze in the category ‘Point of Purchase Products – Plastics’.
 
We believe Fespa awards is one of the most prestigious and recognised award globally.
 
We have diversified in a new segment recently and wanted to test our capabilities at a global plaform. We sent a lenticular print of drawing based on 'Mandala', printed directly on a 40 lpi lenticular lens and mounted on metallic sliver foil.

Also announced at the Awards Gala Dinner were the winners of the four non-application focused categories.
 
The 2015 People’s Choice of the Year Award, which was voted for online by Fespa’s global print community from the shortlisted entries, was presented to PressOn for its Dazzle Ship Wrap.
 
The Best in Show Award, decided by the judges across all
of the entries that they feel offers the most outstanding example of print went to TS Visuals, for their entry in the Metal & Wood Products category.
 
The Young Star Award was presented to Adrian Wolf from Ceramic Passion, who has won a six week internship with category sponsor Mimaki.
 
The 2015 Hall of Fame Award, which is dedicated to the best printer, voted for online by the Fespa community, was awarded to Mark Gervais from Ningbo Shenzhou Knitting Co.
 
The Fespa Awards celebrate print excellence, inviting printers from Fespa’s global print community to demonstrate their most creative and inspiring work.
 
The Awards were judged onsite at Fespa 2015 in Cologne, Germany by renowned print industry experts, including Jacek Stencel, owner and founder of PASJA, a screen and digital printing company; Josep Tobella, screen printing consultant and Hwie-Bing Kwee, owner of Omnimark.
 
“The Awards are always a great example of the high quality and creative impact of what can be achieved with print, showcasing diverse examples from around the world. The entries received this year were second to none, truly illustrating the galaxy of opportunity that print presents,” said Duncan MacOwan, head of new media and events.
