Indian firms want to compete at the international level: Giles of Bradman

Bradman’s Mike Giles, the export sales director of the company, says, “We have a long history of business in India, with companies such as Mondelez, Hindustan Unilever, Nestles, having supplied them a range of packaging machines capable of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.”

Bradman manufactures distribution and feeding systems, flow wrapping, cartoning, loading and closing to case packing, shrink wrapping and roll wrapping machines. “You cannot say a naked product is finished and ready to be shipped into a container,” said Giles.

“Take for instance the Kitkat, our machines take the piece, flow-wraps them, make a display carton, feed the carton to a robotic loading system, transport the carton to a closure, which then glues the carton lid, giving a finished pack. In India, that’s pretty much as far as we have gone. However, beyond that we can then take those finished cartons and put them into cases.”

In India, Bradman has 700 individual units, of which 50 are inline machinery. Giles is excited about the latest installation at Rajhans, which manufactures Hoppits chocolate bars, among others. “We know the multinationals and they know us too.
