So far this year, the company has enjoyed high-end configuration installations at Parksons Packaging, TCPL, Pragati Offset, ITC, Nextgen, and Exquisite.
Aniruddha Chatterjee of Indo Polygraph said, “The year has been the best year since our inception in terms of sales and adding the high profile customers like Pragati. This is the first time in 28 years that Pragati has opted for a German-made printing machine.”
Recounting the early days, Chatterjee said, “Heidelberg and Roland were the two brands at top when we entered the market. It was very tough to break into an existing Heidelberg/Roland citadel, to establish an unknown brand in a relatively conservative and price-sensitive market like India. No one wants to be the proverbial “guinea pig”, especially in a situation where the financial involvements are running into crores of rupees.”
Chatterjee said the decision to choose a six- seven- eight-colour press depends on several variables like quality demands, productivity, spare parts pricing, after-sales backup and the knowledge and expertise of the technical team behind it. He said the decision also depends on the man behind the machine - who is selling it, his reputation in the industry and the reliability of the principal and the agent.
“Though we launched ourselves against the so called “invincible opponents” in 2003 and got some success with commercial and book printers, it was not until 2012 that we really took off, thanks to the increasing market demands for UV printing and our distinctive technical edge,” Chatterjee explained. “It was during this period between 2012 and 2015 that printers endorsed KBA as a “branded company”. Bagging an order is one thing, but retaining that customer for a second term is quite another.”
He added the company’s “clarity of perception” and professional honesty has reaped good dividend year after year. “We have a ‘no compromise on configuration’ policy, which has paid off well for us,” he said.
