According to a company official at Paperex, JK Paper's success is rested in its offer of value-added products to its customers. “Quality comes first,” the official said, “We cannot compromise on quality.”

The company has two plants in Rayagada, Odisha and Fort Songadh, Gujarat. The JK Paper Mills in Odisha was commissioned in 1962 with an integrated pulp and paper plant with 18,000 tpa installed capacity. Over the years, production capacity has been enhanced with the addition of four more paper machines. It manufactures a diversified product range from 58 gsm to 300 gsm of different grades of paper and boards.

Established in 1966, the Central Pulp Mills in Gujarat was taken over by the company in 1992-93 and rehabilitated within a couple of years. It is an integrated pulp and paper plant producing writing and printing paper and virgin packaging board with a total capacity of 4,55,000 tpa.

According to the official, the company is now seriously looking at paperboard for the packaging segment, especially board for the high-end packaging segment. It is among the top two players in coated paper and high-end packaging boards.

The company’s products are sold extensively through the distribution network of 188 wholesalers, 10 depots and four regional marketing offices, covering nearly 4,000 dealers.

JK Paper recently invested about Rs 1,775 crore in expanding and modernising the JK Paper Mills Rayagada. It involved state-of-the-art machines with 1,65,000 tpa of paper capacity and a pulp mill with 2,15,000 tpa. This has significantly reduced water and energy usage.

As part of a larger commitment and respect for the environment, the company has sustained its efforts for increasing the green cover within 200 km area from the plant sites at Rayagada in Odisha and Fort Songadh in Gujarat. It has planted close 17,000 ha of land in 2014-15 under this programme.
