According to Arnab Maiti, national business manager - pre-press solutions and unified workflow solutions, Kodak India, the new streamlined workspace user interface is an important feature, which enables at-a-glance overview of pre-press production, and makes it simpler for a broader set of users to drive standard sheet work jobs to press.

“Prinergy 6 takes automation to a new level by using the job's 'intent' to drive automated processing through every step of production,” added Maiti.

The Workplace interface consists of three modules: Manage, Plan and Track. Another new concept is "Scenario". It is a chain of tasks associated with a certain printing press or set of production conditions.

Maiti explained, “For instance, one might want to use the exact same process to handle specific sets of production jobs: impose, hold, refine, imposition proof, hold, output. All one has to do is select the Scenario one wants to apply to the job, hit the "play" button, and the process begins.”

The new version is equipped with REM (Resources, Equipment and Materials) database. “Once the database is set up, Prinnergy can automatically validate a job against the shop floor's capabilities depending upon the kind of equipment, sizes, folding patterns etc. All this information can now be captured in the REM database, and is used to create the best production plan for each job,” said Maiti.

According to Kodak, all new systems of Prinergy Connect will be shipped with version 6, while Prinergy Evo will get version 6 later this month. There are about 400+ Prinergy users in India, which includes  Evo, Connect and Powerpack variants
