According to the manufacturer, the new press is designed for low running costs, higher speed and dynamic imaging so that the print firms can easily operate in a dynamic marketplace. The press is targeted at direct mail, commercial print, publishing, and packaging applications.

The Nexfinity deploys Kodak’s patented dynamic imaging technology, which applies algorithmic adjustments to specific areas of an image so as to optimise image quality and consistency based on the image content in each area. It features information density of more than 1.8 billion pieces of image information per square inch.

It can run at speeds from 83 to 152ppm and comes with a 48-inch long sheet option as standard. Its LED writing system provides 256 levels of exposure on the imaging cylinder.

One of the salient features of Nexfinity is that its print stations are on rails, so the colour sequence can be switched around – particularly important for users printing white onto clear or dark substrates and dry inks can be printed in alternative orders or combinations required by specific print jobs.

The press is powered with the new Kodak Nexfinity front-end consisting of a pre-press toolset, with imposing, trapping, colour management, job specification and job management and reporting capabilities. This new front-end is equipped with an automated workflow using JDF and JMF for compatibility with a variety of workflow solutions.

Netherlands-based Fotofabriek is the first printer in Europe to use the Nexfinity press. According to Kodak, the new press will be released in spring of 2018.
