Labelexpo 2023 preview: Calor - Durst Group

The expo from 11-14 September in Brussels (Belgium) will showcase a host of technologies for the rapidly evolving labels and packaging segment. PrintWeek highlights the top 150 exhibitors from the boutique show. Here is the second lot.

Calor Stand: 7E34
With 37 years of expertise in thermal transfer ribbons, Calor offers the broadest range of colours on the TTR market and regularly develops new ones according to customer specifications. At Labelexpo Europe, Calor will have highly resistant resin qualities, such as T 850 Sw, which has been especially developed for demanding labelling applications in the electronics and chemical industries. The company will also showcase its security tape range, which includes different resin qualities that print black or transparent and fluorescent in bright colours under UV light.

Cartes Stand: 5D29
Cartes will present six special and unique configurations. A digital finishing technology, Cartes Jet DScreen (JDS) on the Gemini platform, combined with laser die-cutting and converting system, creates a perfect mix for embellishing, finishing and die-cutting digitally printed labels. The GT360 series with JDS integrates flexo with traditional silk screen printing, hot stamping and semi-rotary die-cutting. The GT360 series combines seven units, flexo, three silk screen printing units, two hot stamping and semi-rotary die-cutting with special devices such as labels on labels and a cut-of-window system.

Cerm Stand: 6A42

ChemInstruments Stand: 4E42
ChemInstruments will launch its 180-degree peel adhesive testing machine, offering precise measurements for 180-degree peel tests. The machine runs at varying speeds for flexibility and boasts rugged construction to endure production environments. With advanced digital speed control, it utilises a stepper motor for consistent performance. The integrated touchscreen display allows for standalone operation, while data can be easily downloaded to ChemInstruments’ EZ Data software for comprehensive management. This versatile testing machine empowers professionals in quality control and product development, setting a new standard in adhesive testing technology.

Cheshire Anilox Technology Stand: 6C37
Cheshire Anilox Technology will launch a new anilox sleeve design specially developed to lengthen the life span of the sleeve by protecting its edges and a new engraving designed to overcome the most common narrow web print issues and critically improve the print quality by enhancing ink transfer, reducing pin holing and enable printers to use finer line counts. Also, its award-winning Maxflo+ will be showcased. This innovative engraving design has been refined for more than 12 years to improve how ink is transferred to the plate, drastically reducing foaming, ink spitting, mottling, pinholing, plugging, and dot gain.

Clean Solutions Group Stand: 7D51
Clean Solutions Group will showcase its cleaning solutions for anilox rolls and sleeves, including one of its Laser cleaners, the JetCleaning AL 900. The company’s cleaning solutions are specified for all kinds of inks, coatings, and glues. They can be used for daily and periodic cleaning, automatic or manual cleaning and, off course, a combination.

ColorConsulting Stand: 6D19
ColorConsulting will showcase its colour and ink management solutions, offering a comprehensive range of products, thanks to the collaboration with Alwan Color Expertise and X-rite, to streamline colour workflow management. One of ColorConsulting’s highlighted products is the latest release of ColorSoftware Suite’s ColorTrack, with the inclusion of Pantone v5 guide and Quick Compare function. InkWeigh version 6.0 will also be unveiled at the exhibition, featuring enhanced capabilities and improvements. The company has also introduced the convenient functionality of directly importing recipes into InkWeigh.

Comexi Stand: 4C25
Comexi, founded in 1954, has extensive experience manufacturing equipment for printing and converting in the flexible packaging industry. It operates six product lines, each specialised in a part of the process: flexography, offset and digital printing, laminating, slitting and rewinding, and digital services. It will present its innovative solutions for the labelling industry. It has developed offset printing with a central impression cylinder. This innovative solution adapts to the demanding time-to-market concept, offering reduced costs per print and reducing the environmental impact thanks to the solventless EB offset inks.

ContiTech Elastomer-Beschichtungen Stand: 4A61
ContiTech’s portfolio includes rubber and polymer-mixture printing blankets, precision printing blankets by Conti-Air and Phoenix Xtra Blankets for sheetfed and web offset printing, as well as flexographic printing forms for direct engraving (Conti Laserline). At Labelexpo Europe 2023, the company will present the latest printing solutions, specially developed and optimised for label and packaging production. Continental printing blankets exhibit quality and durability. These characteristics make them the first choice for demanding label and packaging printing.

Daco Solutions Stand: 4A53
UK converting equipment manufacturer Daco Solutions will launch its SRV350 inspection slitter rewinder at Labelexpo Europe 2023. The servo-driven machine features an inspection system from Nikka, a closed-loop unwind tension control, and a fully automatic slitting unit with servo-driven positioning of the knives. It runs at speeds of up to 300-m/min with a 350-mm web width and 800-mm unwind diametre. Also, on display in Brussels will be Daco’s PLD350 semi-automatic turret rewinder for plain label production, and a PLR430 semi-automatic turret rewinder for slitting with integrated 1m unwind with roll lift.

Daetwyler SwissTec Stand: 11D35
Daetwyler SwissTec has developed the MDC Goldstar to work for a wide range of label printing applications. The MDC Goldstar doctor blade has been designed for long runs with the highest wiping ability and quality. It combines a solid base coat with a low coefficient of friction. The corrosion-resistant coating offers a lubricating affect, resulting in a significantly longer service life.

Dantex Group Stand: 9A34
Dantex Group will showcase its PicoJet technology, a digital inkjet press range. Dantex’s current PicoJet range offers a host of popular features such as user-friendly PicoCenter and PicoPilot software with touchscreen interfaces, superior print quality and performance even at high speeds, cutting-edge innovations such as SuperText, SuperWhite, and DecoTactile technologies, which seamlessly integrate with a choice of finishing solutions for end-to-end label production. PicoJet is a true hybrid press and can be configured reel to reel or with a range of inline finishing capabilities.

DCM Usimeca Stand: 5E26
DCM Usimeca, the French manufacturer of converting machines for label and flexible packaging, will present its latest innovations, including a new generation of shrink sleeve seaming machine equipped with laser perforation; a doctoring rewinder for the control and correction of reels, equipped with a 100% inspection system and a narrow-web slitter rewinder bidirectional for inspection and doctoring.

Decosystem Stand: 11B31
Decosystem will present its new inspection system, Sentinel. It comes in different versions to meet all the needs of the customers. It offers 100% print inspection control, colour control, 2D and 3D code reading and grading, and variable data verification. The Sentinel Workflow option will permit linking the printing machine and rewinder flow to save waste and keep production under control. Scandiff2 proof software will allow one to match all pre-press problems. Multilabel is a special machine for pharma labels equipped with automatic tension control, label/metre/diameter counter and Sentinel print inspection system.

Delfort Stand: 5B14
Delfort designs and manufactures innovative, functional and lightweight specialty papers for a sustainable future. Its Tersil UltraLightBase glassine, for self-adhesive applications, is up to 40% lighter than current alternatives on the market, making it a functional and sustainable solution. Due to its thin design, Delfort’s release base paper allows customers to get more labels from each tonne. It requires fewer reel changes since more paper can be wound on a reel and aids in reducing waste as less paper is used to deliver the same amount of labels.

DG Press Stand: 11C20
DG Press is a manufacturer of hybrid web offset printing machines for labels and flexible packaging. Its hybrid web offset printing presses are among the most environmentally friendly solutions in the printing industry. At Labelexpo, DG press will introduce the latest generation of high-tech web offset press, which is equipped with sleeve technology called DG-Auxo. The DG-Auxo is developed by DG Press’ engineering team with over 20 years of experience. This third-generation high-tech web offset press distinguishes itself from other variable-size presses by its modular design and complete freedom of configuration, offering versatility.

Dilli Stand: 9A28
Dilli will demonstrate its latest digital inkjet label press named Neo Picasso, which includes upgraded tension control system for more stable printing. The machine can print on maximum print width of 330-mm at maximum speed of 50-m/m with CMYKOV (spot colours can be OV/OG/VG) and double white which boasts highest level of opacity in label industry in maximum resolution of 600x1,200-dpi. It can cover a wide range of labels and flexible packaging applications. It also has a corona treater, chill roller, pin-curing LED system and full color variable data printing capability as default options and user-friendly software.

Domino Printech  |  Stand: 9A60
Domino will showcase the N730i digital UV inkjet label press along with the K600i variable data printer integrated with the new K300 high-resolution inkjet. Deemed one of the latest global technology advancements, the N730i digital UV inkjet label press prints at 1,200-dpi with Bitstar print head technology. It is configurable in up to seven colours (CMYKOVW) and can achieve up to 92% of the Pantone colour range. It has an optional flexo priming station (pre-digital), which can be retrofitted to optimise print quality on more difficult media types. An optional flexo station (post-digital) can be retrofitted to support varnishing, a brand spot colour, or flood white for shrink sleeve applications. The K600i allows variable data printing at up to 492-ft/min and the ability to print serial, batch, random, or Pins.

Dorey Converting Systems Stand: 4C65B
For 80 years, Dorey Converting Systems has been developing, designing and producing roll-to-roll machine solutions relating to innovative projects, converting flexible materials and manufacturing technical labels such as high-tech and smart labels and RFID and NFC tags/labels. The company provides incomparably customised and modularised smart machinery equipment solutions, including rotary die-cutting, laminating, laser-cutting, perforating, marking and ablation, AOI and printing applications.

Dow Stand: 7E41
Dow will showcase the next-generation silicone-release coatings, acrylics, and silicone adhesives for label performance in a circular economy.
Dow’s high-speed Syl-Off release coating solutions are future-proofed for up to 1,300-m/min and enable quicker production rates with lower curing temperatures, stronger anchorage and reduced misting to allow for greater efficiency and reduced downtime. Visitors will also learn about a range of  silicone and water-borne acrylic adhesives that perform under pressure and deliver adhesive strength, UV resistance, temperature stability and processing efficiency for pressure-sensitive paper and filmic labels in packaging and industrial applications.

DNP Stand: 3A24
DNP’s will focus on versatility, with a display of its latest product, V390. This versatile resin for thermal transfer overprint (TTO) and near-edge printing allows durable prints at high speeds and on many different substrates. It is one of the five products DNP has labelled as the most versatile thermal transfer ribbons in its portfolio. The other four products are: V300, M255, M295HD 4.0 and TR4085+.

Drop Stand: 11F25
Drop AG by Hans Lüscher offers machines for screen printing and flexo printing made in Germany. Drop will display the Drop DirectPoser and Drop Phoenix CtS at the show. Drop DirectPoser is a direct exposure system for flexographic printing plates based on EPDM materials. DirectPoser produces high-quality, ready-to-use flexographic printing plates for the label, pharmaceutical, corrugated, coating plate and dry offset sectors in just two steps. The Drop Phoenix CTS (Computer-to-Screen) is a UV laser direct platesetter that produces high-quality printing screens with perfect resolution, optimal emulsion curing and high speed.

Durst Group  |  Stand: 7C45
Durst Group will introduce the Durst Hawk Eye technology. It utilises computer vision and artificial intelligence to automate print quality. It also reduces setup time and waste, resulting in enhanced efficiency and an even more competitive total cost of ownership for the Tau RSC platform printers. Durst will also unveil the next generation of the Tau RSC UV ink set. This new ink set, available in the colours CMYK OVG and white, meets the latest regulatory requirements and expands the converters’ application range even further.
