Labelexpo Europe preview: Digital

Indian label printing industry is riding high on the back of a booming packaging sector, Labelexpo Europe (24-27 September 2013) is India’s opportunity to make a mark on the global market.

A look at digital equipment manufacturers who will exhibit at Labelexpo Europe.

Creed Engineers

Gurgaon-based Creed Engineers will launch Vinsak LSR330 label inspection slitter rewinder, which will be demonstrated alongwith Vinsak VIS 1200 inkjet system. In addition, the products showcased at Creed’s stand will include Vinsak’s brand protection solutions such as security inks, softwares and other smart innovative and secure products. According to the company, these products are aimed at providing profit improvement, environmental considerations and adding more value to the products and applications. Neeraj Sharma, executive director, Creed Engineers, said, “This is the first show for Vinsak at Labelexpo Europe and we have new products to show. The Vinsak LSR 330 label inspection slitter rewinder has been a result of our research and development through which we are able to introduce many products that we know will be of high interest for many customers.” The VIS1200 is a modular wide format inkjet printing system. According to Sharma, the VIS 1200 can print on a variety of papers such as offset papers, coated paper, gloss papers etc. The user interface is easy to handle, offers a good overview and with its Windows technology it is truly intuitive.”

Epson

Epson will launch the SurePress L-6034VW single-pass digital label press, demonstrate SurePress L-4033AW digital label press and show digital proofing and prototyping for a variety of packaging applications. The SurePress L-6034VW was first shown as a prototype at Drupa 2012 and is the first Epson product to use LED-curable UV ink. It is a single-pass digital seven-colour label printer with white ink.

SM Ramprasad, deputy general manager, consumer product group- Epson India said, “At Labelexpo Europe we will show our strong commitment to developing a range of professional label presses that enable companies to grow their business and access lucrative new markets with confidence. The machine can print up to five metres per minute at 720×720 dpi (on paper).”

HP
Stand Patio

HP Indigo will present a full labels and packaging digital printing portfolio – narrow web, wide web and sheetfed - for label, sleeve, flexible packaging and folding carton production at the show. New capabilities for the HP Indigo WS6600 digital press will be demonstrated alongside the wide format HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press and HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press, making their first appearance at a Labelexpo event.

For folding cartons, the HP Indigo 30000 digital press will be shown in-line with the Tresu iCoat 30000, a selective UV and WB coater, while Kama will exhibit a new solution for automatic stripping and blanking after die cutting, as well as the Kama DC76 die cutting and foil machine. In addition, HP Indigo and AB Graphics will show Digicon 3000 for label converting on a wide web, allowing HP Indigo users to expand their range of applications.

Daco Solutions

Daco will display its Daco D350 is a single rewind die cutting machine fitted with a one-metre unwind for immediate higher production output. It features an auto cut and apply system with inter-label cutting for applying the web to the cores at the start of the rewinding process. Based on Daco’s bestselling design, this semi-automatic rotary die cutter promises a 50% increase in capacity from its 350mm web width.  Also Daco Solutions’ original entry level, table-top die cutter has had a makeover. The upgrade includes a back scorer mechanism to take up waste edge trim, ergonomic upgrades and a new waste rewind mandrel design.

Domino

Having confirmed its transition from being a supplier of part-personalisation technologies to a fully-fledged digital press manufacturer during the previous Labelexpo Europe 2011, Domino is all set to launch its full colour digital inkjet label press at the show this year. The new addition to the N-Series range signifies a further step forward in the evolution of advanced digital ink jet for label production. Visitors would see this technology for the first time in a series of live demonstrations on the stand including integration into a working AB Graphics Digicon finishing line as well as a separate stand-alone press. An integrated AVT quality inspection system will also be on display.

Durst

Durst, a leading manufacturer of industrial digital printing equipment, will launch Tau 330 UV inkjet label press with in-line digital laser finishing system at Labelexpo Europe 2013. During Labelexpo India in 2012, Durst had announced the launch of the Tau 330 UV inkjet label press, a few months after it was unveiled at Drupa 2012. The improved system incorporates the latest Spartanics’ laser die cutting technology. Durst will also showcase the very latest inkjet technology, the new Tau low migration UV Inks from Sunjet.

EFI’s Jetrion

EFI will showcase its Jetrion 4900ML with full featured inline finishing, including laser die cutting, eliminates the need for dies and allows you to go from print file to finished roll in a single step, resulting in the leanest label production possible. Add new varnish and lamination options for even greater versatility. EFI’s Jetrion UV inkjet presses combine the performance of EFI Jetrion’s UV inkjet print engine with the flexibility of industrial web finishing. EFI has recently appointed Monotech Systems as its distributor in India for the EFI Jetrion range of digital label presses. The Jetrion industrial inkjet system from EFI is targeted for short-run, versioned and personalised labels, variable data printing, packaging and other printed products.

Esko will be demonstrating an array of solutions for the label and tag industry at Labelexpo Europe 2013. Including their newest release, Esko’s Full HD Flexo solution – Full HD Flexo for labels – along with the popular CDI digital flexo plate imagers will be featured on Esko’s stand. The newest entrant, HD flexo solution for labels, features adapted screening and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the label and tag industry. It, according to a company statement, delivers high quality with impactful solids, smoother highlights and expanded colour gamut, along with enhanced print stability and reduction of gear marks when using gear-driven presses. Visitors will also see Esko’s Suit 12 and two CDI machines, CDI Spark 4835 and Spark 2420. “The label and tag industry remains of strategic importance for Esko. Kodak

Kodak will be demonstrating a broad range of solutions that offer benefits across the packaging value chain from brand owners to trade shops to packaging and label printers and converters. The Kodak Flexcel NX System and the recently launched Kodak Flexcel Direct System will both be on display at Labelexpo Europe. Visitors to the show will also see Kodak NX Plates and prepress workflow automation tools showing how to improve productivity and connectivity using the Kodak Prinergy Powerpack Workflow. The theme of the show for Kodak is “Do More with Less”.

Monotech

Spartanics will have a large presence at the show to celebrate its 50th anniversary. At its stand, attendees will find demonstration of the L-350 laser cutting system. Spartanics will also showcase NW140 UV digital narrow web press, featuring narrow web, UV inkjet digital printing running in-line with the Spartanics X-140 laser station. On the Durst stand, attendees will be able to view the Tau 330 UV inkjet label press operating in-line with Spartanics’ laser cutting system.

Xeikon

Xeikon will demonstrate its new ICE toner for its digital label presses at Labelexpo Europe. It will be available for customers as from Q4-2013. Part of the Xeikon Label Suite, the new toner is ideal for heat sensitive substrates including PE facestock (polyethylene) and thermal labels. This will open up the potential for a whole range of new applications. ICE toner is based on the proven Xeikon QA technology, bringing the renowned benefits including top printing quality, high lightfastness, top opaque white quality and being able to print on conventional substrates without the need of specific priming. ICE toner will run on all new and installed Xeikon 3000 Series digital presses, and has already undergone extensive tests in the field with a number of existing customers.
