Labelexpo Preview: Consumables Ink/Coatings/Adhesives

The core issues being addressed in the development of new labels and packaging are driven by increased consumer awareness and demand for safe ink for direct contact with food medical devices and pharmaceutical products. Add to it the topics which nclude sustainability, crade-to-crade usage, compostability and recyclability. Consumables like ink, coatings and adhesives have to be optimised not only in safety but performance too.

HB Fuller will focus on special applications for a clear-on-clear label application, as well as general purpose, such as logistic labels. Swiftmelt 1838 is one such hotmelt PSA for the logistics label market. Converters can use this adhesive for all their logistic labels applications. A combination of good cohesion and good shear resistance, makes this a perfect adhesive for difficult-to-bond surfaces in the logistics labels industry, like recycled cardboard.

The company recently expanded its footprint globally through acquisitions, including Adecol and Royal Adhesives & Sealants. It’s tapes and label business in India has seen a double-digit growth in the past year.

 

PSA adhesives

Henkel | Hall 5, Stall A22

Henkel will show a range of its pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) technologies, including conductive inks and a range of water-based PSA wash-off labels for PET bottles, enabling clean recycling. Henkel will also present its most recent developments in food safe and removable labels.

 

Primers for digital presses

Visitors can see a selection of water-based inline and offline primers, and overprint varnishes. However the company’s range for water-based and UV-based brand for digital presses – DigiPrime for HP Indigo, JetPrime for inkjet, and DigiGuart for OPVs will take the centre stage at the Michelman stand.


Sicura series

Siegwerk | Hall 6, Stall A17

Siegwerk will present a range of inks and varnishes for non- and food applications. Sicura Nutritube offers a new low-migration ink series for dry offset printing especially designed for extruded (pre-formed) tubes as well as laminated tubes in web printing. Sicura NutriJet UV-Inkjet, is a low migration inkjet ink series for food and pharma packaging that works with different inkjet printing head technologies and delivers the same CMYK colour positioning as flexo inks. Sicura Jet, Siegwerk says, is the only non-CMR UV-inkjet inks that are designed for printing labels for household, hygiene and industrial packaging in its offering.


UV screen inks and UV varnish

Sirpi | Hall 3, Stall A74

The 50-year-old screen inks manufacturer will show a range of screen inks and varnishes. It will introduce a UV deep matt velvet Black, deep UV matt shade, which the company says, is demanded by wine labels manufacturer. The new black is easier to print and to dry, accept hot stamping foil easily.
