Sappi, which upgraded its Paper Machine 2 (PM2) at Alfeld Mill with a Euro 60-million investment, came online in October last year. All the above three grades of paper will be produced at the new PM2.
“With our products, we do not deliver only paper, we deliver solutions to our market,” said Ingo Kaiser, marketing communications specialist for speciality paper at Sappi. “For example, the Algro Guard include paper includes integrated solutions for barrier functionality (against oil) and heat seal-ability. This means that the brand owners do not need to apply a coating to the paper. They only need to print.” The Algro Guard is produced with original fiber without any recycling.
Talking about trends in paper and paperboard in packaging, Kaiser said, “There are three trends one is seeing these days. One is of having less grammages to save cost in the supply channel, but with the same result as before; two, to add functionality so as to protect food, and three to give more processing properties and printing results, which will enable shelf presence.”
