Pai is the business development manager – graphic arts and paper converting, India and Middle East and Africa,

The seventh session of Seekho aur Samjho technical workshop series was held at SIES Graduate School of Technology in Nerul, on 7 August. The session in Hindi focused

The session helped the students and printers connect with the latest in technology in adhesives.

The session saw the discussion on the different types of adhesives, basic formulations and principles of adhesion. Also, adhesives in print finishing applications in graphic arts and paper converting with respect to folding boxes and litho lamination were discussed in detail.

During the seminar, Pai explained how the right adhesive can improve quality, improve efficiency and optimise cost. Additionally, new technologies like PUR in graphic arts and AirFoam technology in paper converting (litho lamination) was explained during the session.

Airfoam is an adhesive in a foam form, which is formed by a chemical reaction between two types of adhesives. Pai said, “The advantage of such adhesive is that they have less water content and hence has less weight and prevents warping.”

“New technologies like PUR and Airfoam will help improve quality and productivity and hence it is necessary to understand these technologies well before adopting them,” explained Pai.

Pai further added that “These technologies will enable the printer to work on projects or products, which were considered to be complex in terms of substrates. Also, these technologies will also help in waste reduction, one of the major challenges this industry is facing today.”

The question and answer session was the most interesting and informative part. The attendees asked questions about the difficulties faced by them in their daily production schedule and students about the various technologies, calculation of the amount of adhesives to be used and terminologies.
