Thomas Geisel, chairman of the supervisory board of Messe Düsseldorf, Werner M Dornscheidt, president and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH among the other members were present for the occasion.

Dornscheidt said, “With the start of construction we have taken an important step towards the complete modernisation and renovation of our premises at our homebase, and we continue adapting the exhibition centre to our customers’ demands and requirements thereby increasing our service excellence even further.”

The project aims at developing a multifunctional hall with conference facilities. Another important focus is to build an LED-lit canopy roof for the south entrance which will revamp the south part of the Düsseldorf exhibition centre. The overall cost of the project is summed up to EUR 140 million.

Messe Düsseldorf will be investing around EUR 636 million for its expansion by 2030.  “With this move, Messe Düsseldorf secures its position as one of the leading trade fair companies worldwide and as the most profitable trade fair organiser with its own premises in Europe,” said Geisel.

Regarding the future strategy of Messe Düsseldorf, Dornscheidt said, “Over the past 15 to 20 years the trade fair business has undergone massive changes in the wake of globalisation.” Speaking about the approach for 2030, 11 out of 19 halls had already been renovated by 2016.
