The city has around 500-600 printing presses, out of which approximately 200 are four-colour, including web offset and digital. Most of the printing businesses in Lucknow are run by second generation printers.

Interestingly, the city already has a printers’ association, called Lucknow Printers Association.

On the need for a new association, Rahul Bhargav, secretary, LAMP, said, “As the small and unorganised printers here are big in number, we formed this new association to look after their needs. We felt that one association is not enough to do this. Both the associations will work together towards the common objective.”

Explaining the objective of the new association, Bhargav said, "The objective is to have a common platform where printers can interact, have a strong presence collectively and cater to the difficulties faced by the printers in respect to government laws.”

He said the association also wants to open a training facility to meet the shortage of skilled labour in the industry and for this, he said, talks with the government are already on.

The other objectives of the association include imparting technical knowledge and creating awareness of the latest technologies through seminars and encouraging printers to take part in national and international exhibitions and educating the members about the benefits offered by the government under the ministry of micro small and medium enterprises schemes.

“The association would like to get affiliated with the All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP). In due course the association also expects that more members will join in,” Bhargav concluded.
