Lucknow printers’ association gets affiliated to UP merchants’ body

The Lucknow Printers Association (LPA), the printers’ body in the capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh, got affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal (UPAVM), the merchants’ body of the state, in an event on 2 September 2015, to work together for the benefit of the business community and to resolve the grievances of all the members in the community, and also to act as a bridge between the businessmen and the government.

“The reason for coming together with UPAVM is to affiliate all small printers of the city to the Mandal and to make the Mandal a parent body, which can look after the needs of these small printers. It will be mutually benefits to both the associations,” said Harjinder Singh, general secretary, LPA.

Singh explained that when different associations come together under one roof, they can share the data and statistics of their businesses they have with them and thereby creating a strong database of all the businesses of the capital, they can help seek the attention of the government towards the needs of these businesses.

He gave an example. When the state electricity board classified the printing presses in Lucknow under industrial category in March 2015, the printers’ body protested against the decision. In this, they were helped wholehearted by UPAVM. So, it made sense for the printers’ body to be a part of the larger organisation.

“We have gained strength by affiliating with UPAVM. This will help us raise our demands in front of the government. At the same time, with this affiliation, UPAVM also receives the collective strength of the city’s printers,” said Singh.

According to Singh, the print market in Lucknow is struggling as there are not many industries in the region. Unlike Kanpur, which is a hub of packaging, most of Lucknow printers are into commercial printing. “Most printers here depend on government jobs, but these jobs are not much these days,” said Singh, adding that he is hoping for a better scenario in the near future.
