Mehta was elected on 26 September at the AIFMP's governing council in Pondicherry. He takes on the position from P Chander, who held the role in 2009-10.

Mehta, who is at the helm of Utility PrintPack, one of the fastest growing packaging converting companies in India, is credited with helping the AIFMP gain a strong position. Other than its core activity, Mehta has been instrumental in creating better outreach for the AIFMP's awards and engaging professionals for the Pamex show.

In his inaugural address, Mehta outlined his plans for the AIFMP in 2010-11. He has proposed that 1 May be observed as an all-India "Printers' Parivar Divas" in the honour of print workers and their families. In addition, Mehta said: "The need of the hour is to start training centres all over India. The first training centre will be initiated at Bengaluru – at a project cost of Rs 40 crore."

Mehta who has been president of AIFMP, has appointed his team and chairpersons for various committees. He is keen that "the print industry is given proper recognition –and its just dues – by the government of India."
