One such example is the reconfigured web offset printing press, Uniset 60, currently running at Malayala Manorama’s printing plant in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Uniset is a brand of Manugraph.

PK Philip, chief general manager, Malayala Manorama, said, “We have upgraded our printing machine to print 16-colour pages in 24-page format. Thus, we needed to add more printing units to the existing Uniset 60, which was installed in the facility in 2003. The units were added but the re-configuration of controls was given to Manroland. We are satisfied with the arrangements. Manroland completed the work in just three weeks without affecting routine printing.”

Earlier, the company had implemented similar projects in Dubai, Australia, Columbia and Congo.

“Manroland is in a position to provide the best strategic partnership due to its superior knowledge of equipment design, construction and execution of high level projects. This is all in line with our customary standards for reliable, high-performance presses,” Philip added.

Malayala Manorama, the largest Malayalam daily has a readership of over 10 million (with a circulation base of over 2.2 million copies). According to World Association of Newspapers, as of 2011, it is the 11th most circulated newspaper in the world, fourth largest in India and largest in Kerala. The Malayala Manorama group has 20 more titles, which are printed from 19 centres across India and the countries in Gulf.

The reconfiguration project included incorporating three H-type printing units, one colour desk and one drive panel with motor. “We developed the customised software as per the technical configurations of the press and everything worked well due to Manroland Web Systems experience of press manufacturing for more than 160 years,” said Bijendra Sharma, general manager, technical services, Manroland India.
