Sudeep Bhattacharjee, managing director at Manroland India, said, “Today, we are here to talk about digital. We would like to have our product in front of you along with Kodak. Kodak will be talking about the print engine and we will talk about the finishing segment.”
Independent publishing consultant Subhasis Ganguli, said, “We conducted this two city roadshow to understand the customer requirement. This is to establish the digital market and to re-emphasise that digital printing is not here to compete with the offset.” There were 15 delegates in Mumbai and approximately 30 print firm CEOs in Bengaluru which included the representatives from Deccan Herald and TOI.
Talking about digital, Rodd Harrison, sales and marketing director, enterprise inkjet systems, Asia Pacific Region at Kodak (Singapore), said, “We never profess that digital is going to replace offset.”
Alwin Stadler, vice-president digital solutions at Manroland Web Systems, in his presentation, spoke about the digital finishing solutions offered by Manroland and how it can benefit the printers. Stadler ensured the delegates to develop an understanding of digital printing and finishing in India and help extend their base in the digital segment.

Subhasis Ganguli: The FormerLine is a solution for publishing
Indian book publishing is at crossroads. While the numbers of titles getting published every year are increasing, yet bestsellers are few. Self-publishing is on rise and individual print runs are coming down steadily.
Cashflow is always a point of concern. Warehousing and logistics costs are growing steadily. There are uncertainties in air about the future of schoolbook publishing.
This is the time when we need to look at the existing processes critically and to challenge them. We need to understand how we could control the wastage and reduce our inventory to improve cash flow. We need to understand how we could get the stock just in time and also address the growing need of customisation according to personal choice.
Digital printing could address all of these and more. This effort by Manroland to connect with the end users viz. publishers and printers and to better understand their views could be described as the prime objective of this roadshow.
