“In the heatset segment, we enjoy 70% market share”

Komori is in the heatset commercial segment and we enjoy a market share of over 70% globally. In the newspaper segment Komori does not make any machines. Standardisation is very important, if it’s not well understood one cannot reap the benefits. High raw material cost and shortages has been troubling the print industry. Higher costs will have a major impact on profitability and sustenance, and it is inevitable.

Therefore, we invest a lot in upgrading our technology and follow many such processes such as green technologies, JIT, TQM, Kaizen and Zero defects. As far as the old debate of cut-off sizes are concerned, for magazines it is 546 and 578mm. Newspapers are becoming local and hyperlocal. That’s why contract printing is picking up; to cut production cost as newspapers feel this is not a core area of operations. I see it as a plus point, as newer and more cost-effective solutions will come up in remote parts of the country.
