These screen printed serigraphs includes Akbar Padamsee’s The Face, Amit Ambalal’s Messenger, T Vaikuntum’s Untitled and KG Subramanium’s Seated Girl.

Marvel’s range of work includes a variety of works in print making including wood cuts, intaglios, lithographs and etching serigraphs.

Chaitya Dhanvi Shah, managing director of Marvel Art Gallery which published the above serigraphs, said: “We have received marvellous response over the past for the limited editions. The entire bunch of artists for whom we created the serigraphs received incredible appreciation from the national as well as international art patrons.”

Serigraphs have a long and fascinating history as a printing art more versatile than any traditional printing technique. The serigraphs printing begins with the breaking down of the images into separate colours that are to be printed one after the other until the print is finished which is carried out by forcing ink through a series of fine meshed silk-screens.

Illustrating Marvel’s serigraphy work through KG Subramanium’s Seated Girl, Shah exemplified, “The original work was created in 2007 by the artist, which was reverse painting on Mylar sheet. For the print version we used the Fabriano 300gsm serigraph  using 32 tones of colours per screen. The challenging part was to recreate the gold effect on Mylar sheet with glossy effect on paper. Multiple applications of colours gradually build what appears as gold.”

Most of Marvel’s work has more than 25 tones of colours per screen using Somerset Radiant and Fabriano papers, which brings to life the strokes of the artists.

Marvel’s works have revolutionised, what screen printers often use as the reduction technique, far beyond its application, by creating stunningly realistic images in colour and tone.
