Marvel prints Byomkesh's Bollywood dream
For all of you who are awaiting your dose of nostalgia with the Detective Byomkesh Bakshi (DBB) release (tomorrow, 3 April), it's just got a tad easier to immortalise the Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's classic and the Calcutta culture in your homes.

Ahmedabad-based, Marvel Graphic Studio, the fine art and serigraph specialist has produced a limited edition of 300 prints for Yash Raj Film's Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. These prints come with a printed signature of the lead actor, Sushant Singh Rajput and the director, Dibakar Banerjee.
The two serigraphs, Taana and Elements of DBB, beautifully document the Calcutta heritage and the legacy of Bandyopadhyay's Byomkesh Bakshi.
Taana, depicts the iconic mode of commute connected with the City of Joy. While Elements of DBB is inspired by the popular culture and art that formed an integral part of Bakshi's identity and his adventures.
Said Dhanvi Shah, "The pop art style of these serigraphs exudes youthfulness, sensuality, and vibrancy. The works evoke a certain emotional and cultural presence of classic Calcutta. The Taana To us, Taana rickshaws are a symbol of strength, self dependence and employment. Our purpose is to preserve this iconic face of Kolkata in the form of art. This is our way to pay tribute and preserve one of the most iconic symbols of royalty that existed in pre-independence era in India."
Shah continued, "The main characteristic of this style is use of bold colours, bold outlines, and contrasting tones, thus, making this film inspired art appealing to all preferences and tastes as a fashion statement."
Marvel Graphic Studio are looking for an overall expansion of their manufacturing and distribution facility. The market for limited editionserigraphs has grown rapidly according to Chaitya Dhanvi Shah, managing director, Marvel Graphic Studio talking about the market he said, “We have been exporting prints to Australia, Hong Kong, Muscat, UAE, UK and US, but the market is really lopsided when you compare reproduction of foreign artists to Indian ones. This gap is bound to shrink.”
Marvel Graphic Studio recently claimed Fespa gold award in the ‘Fine Art Printer of the Year’ category and has been titled the PrintWeek India Fine Art Printer fo the Year for four times in a row.
