The new press will print at a top speed of 3,000 B2 size sheets per hour and a maximum resolution of 1,200dpi. It will be able to do full variable data printing on sheet sizes of up to 20x29in and substrate weights of up to 500 gsm.

"This machine is targetted at high-end print solutions for commercial or packaging applications and short run digital printers. It will be crowd puller in Drupa," said Natarajan Vaidyanathan, managing director of Aura Print Solutions - exclusive dealers for MGI presses in India.

The Alphajet will have the capabilities to print six-colours plus in-line UV coating (a unique feature of MGI presses) and will utilise MGI's award-winning UV inkjet technology, as seen previously in the JetVarnish and JetCard. The new press will become commercially available in 2013.

The launch follows the announcement that HP is launching its new B2 digital press, the 3,450sph HP Indigo 10000, a week ago on 13 March 2012.
