Multitec expects more from the FMGC sector
While Labelexpo has the unmistakable feel of an international show, more than anyone, it offers the domestic machine manufacturers a chance to shine. So, we have Faridabad-based Multitec Aids, who introduced two new narrow-web label printing presses – Ecoflex VSi Servo and Ecosmart. As we visited the stall, there were already prospective customers waiting for live demonstrations of the machines.

Amit Ahuja, director, Multitec Aids, said while Ecoflex is a slightly higher version, where one can print on a wide range of substrates from 25 microns film to 320gsm light cartons, Ecosmart is a more economical version for people who do not want to print on films.
Multitec has so far installed 90 narrow-web flexo printing presses and according to Ahuja, around 50% of them are being used for printing FMCG labels. Ahuja said, in the last financial year alone, the company had 19 installations.
On the future of the label industry Ahuja said FMCG and cosmetics are the two growth areas. Another sector where Ahuja feels there is a growth prospect is the food packaging sector. In the Indian context, frozen foods packaging market is still in a nascent state and when there is a growth potential.
On the future of label stock, he said linerless labels have the potential. Right now, only the international manufactures are in linerless labels. Time is ripe for Indian firms to venture into the field.
Ahurja said while there have been number of innovations in the different sectors within the label industry, there is a need to focus on finishing. The converters have pressing presses, but when it comes to finishing, they still need proper equipment.
