Mumbai’s Unique installs Canon Imagepress C600

Mumbai-based Unique Photo Offset Services, aiming to bring in more flexibility to its print offerings, has installed a Canon Imagepress C600 digital production press, a month ago. Prior to installation of the new digital production press, Unique had Canon’s CLC 700, which was replaced by CLC 1100 and then a Ricoh kit.

“We were looking for a digital production press in a certain budget that could print on texured papers, had larger print size and a consistency in print that met our proofing needs,” said Gautam Nerker, managing partner at Unique. “Among the three press from three companies, Konica Minolta, Ricoh and Canon, we evaluated, we found Canon’s latest device, the Imagepress C600 fit into our scheme of things.”

Unique,  a pre-press specialists also offers labels and sleeves printed by flexo, large-format digital printing, offset printing and short-run digital printing solutions.

The C600 is not a low-end machine nor a high-end, and is good enough for what Unique calls “whole package service”, where it can now meet its in-house requirement of proofing for commercial print and sampling of packaging jobs as well as short-run jobs of around 50 to 500 copies. “We have three different verticles, offset, flexo and signage. Our in-house proofing requirement is very high. And though these are part of the print jobs, they assure the flow of print jobs for me. It also adds to my short-run capability,” said Nerker. “For runs larger than 500, offset is put to use.”

The Imagepress C600 features Canon’s VCSEL laser unit, which delivers 2,400 dpi resolution and can print on a variety of substates at a speed of 60ppm. “We are happy with the speed and the colour consistency, thanks to the new Consistently Vivid (CV) toner. It also delivers duplex print.”
