Richard’s Prints is a medium-sized packaging print company, which primarily focuses on pharma packaging by addressing their requirements for mono cartons, inserts and outserts printing. The company is aware that automation of business processes is key to scale up and meet the standardisation, quality and turnaround requirements of the pharma industry.

To meet the stringent requirements of its pharma customers, Richard’s Prints is equipped with Heidelberg and Komori printing machines along with “the best” folding machines for inserts and outserts. The press also follows all the SOPs required for a packaging print firm.

While the company had some basic automation in place, it was looking for an end-to-end workflow for its operations – from planning to execution and reporting. It eventually opted to go with an ERP software designed by Indore-based Indus Analytics.

According to Allwyn Serrao, managing partner at Richard’s Prints, the installation of Indus Print ERP system has enabled the firm to be much more productive through process automation. “Our goal is to become one of the major players for inserts and outserts for large pharma companies where quality and turnaround is of paramount importance.”

Serrao said that the firm evaluated a number of ERP systems based on its user-friendliness, automated process functions and systematic approach before zeroing in on Indus Print ERP. “We found Indus Analytics’ Indus Print, which covers all the stages from planning, sales orders to deliverables and dispatch, to be very easy to understand especially for our on-floor staff,” Serrao said.

The major challenge the press faced was in the front of data storage and retrieval for reprint jobs, as these were a bulk of orders that the company executes for its regular pharma clients. According to Serrao, Indus Print provided for a centralised storage of approvals and job cards both job-wise and customer-wise, thereby “ensuring better time management and process management”.

Another challenge was that the press operators had minimal exposure to automation and most of them where first-time users of an ERP system. This meant the training of the staff workers was necessary.

However, Serrao said the Indus Print ERP is easy to use. “Although the training sessions had to be conducted remotely due to the pandemic, there was nothing amiss,” Serrao added.

Parmeshwar Patidar, managing director at Indus Analytics said that the staff of Richard’s Prints were trained remotely and the trainers ensured that the trainees were well equipped with the knowledge of the various features and functions in the ERP system.

Serrao explained: “We had a smooth roll-out and we could see the results in productivity enhancement of our staff. The support provided during the roll-out was tremendous and the team at Indus Analytics was available just a phone call away.

“We are very happy with the product and look forward to the continued improvements and new features that will enhance our productivity further.  We are happy to recommend the product to any printing organisation that is looking to automate and standardise its processes.”
