Netherlands-based Honicel to set up plant in Chennai

Honicel Worldwide, a global major in “honeycomb” products forms a joint venture with Ethiraj Timber to set a plant at Ambattur, in Chennai.

The new facility in Chennai will produce 9,000 tons of honeycomb core each year. 60 per cent of this will be utilised for the packaging industry to cater to the container packaging, pharmaceuticals, automobile and food industry segments.

The new plant will manufacture constructive and packaging products, mainly for the domestic market. Honicel pallets, the eco-friendly replacements for plywood are recyclable, renewable and bio-degradable.

The company will soon build facilities in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. In their very first year, Honicel is expecting a turnover of around Rs 3,000-crore.
