Mahesh Khandelwal, director at Nextgen Printers signed the deal in the presence of Bobst management delegates.
Khandelwal said, “Going forward, packaging companies like us will have to adopt automation, which will enable faster turnaround of jobs clubbed with productivity to be more cost-efficient.”
He added, “The only way to grow in an environment where the labour force is depleting and rising cost of space by the day, is by reducing labour, minimising work-in-progress (WIP) and multiple handing through automation.”
Khandelwal says he saw all these benefits in the new kit and was impressed to see the two jobs, both single cut and double cut running at 7000 sh/hr with blanking. “Moreover, the demonstration showed that one could also do a full-sheet delivery at the blanking station in case one does not want to invest in tools for certain jobs and that the machine could still deliver like a standard die cutter.”
Emilo Corti, head of sales, BU-SF at Bobst, remarked that it was a proud moment for Bobst that a company from as far as India coming to Brazil and taking this decision. “It exemplifies the fact that the product was positioned right for the emerging and growing economies like India, South America, China and SEA who were looking at an entry level blanking die cutter so that the whole converting process could be automated and be made more efficient.”
Established in 2009, Nextgen rounded off a Rs 22-crore investment in setting up the first printing and packaging plant in Sikkim. The investment in 2009 among other equipment, included Bobst Novacut 106 die-cutter and an Ambition 76 A1 folder-gluer.
Puneet Aggarwal, zonal sales manager and key account manager for Nextgen Printers recalled the time when Nextgen forayed into folding carton business. “The company has never looked back since then and have always taken bold decisions with a keen eye on technology.” He concluded, “It’s this propensity that has made the company, in a short span of time, one to reckon with in the Eastern corridors, and an emerging one in India.”
