Manish Kapoor, sales manager, Nilpeter India, said, “The idea is to create a technology centre in India, and not just a manufacturing plant. We manufacture machines, but, we also open up opportunities for training and testing purposes. We are the only foreign label equipment manufacturer to have a manufacturing facility in India.”
According to Kapoor, 65% of the press components are still imported. “The primary reason is that we want to be sure that two presses coming out of the two Nilpeter facilities have to be similar in every which way possible. Second issue is the quality. We experimented with making the parts in India, but have not been able to match the tolerances possible.”
When asked about the probability of exporting Indian manufactured presses, Kapoor, said, “We have exported one press from India. However, the number of presses we manufacture here are sufficient enough to fulfill the requirements of the Indian market. So, servicing the Indian market is the first priority. Now, since we have expanded our factory, we would be exporting more.”
The company installed six presses in 2013 and till date the count for 2014 is five presses.
