Nimbus Packaging shines in Vapi with Bobst
Vapi-based Nimbus Packaging, a 40,000 sq/ft area facility, which came into operation in 2016 has optimised its production with a new Bobst Novacut die-cutter and an Expertfold folder-gluer.

Hemant Dayama, partner at Nimbus, said, “We wanted to start the company with new machines. This has helped us in gaining recognition in the industry from the first year itself.”
However, to begin with, Nimbus used to die-cut around 2,500-3,000 sheets/hr on the Novacut. Dayama felt that with the efficiency of Novacut, there was room for improvement in the production and that there was some gap which needed to be filled in. "We sought help from the Bobst team, who provided us on-site training and after an analysis of the problem, we could up the average production rate to 5,000 sheets per hour." As a result, today Nimbus produces about 35,000 sheets per shift on the Novacut. This includes die-cutting on various substrates such as three-ply boards; cartons; and PP cartons among others.
Rajesh Gupta, partner at Nimbus, said, “Bobst should be considered as a role model for other companies when it comes to installation support and after-sales service. Bobst team was with us right from creating the infrastructure of our facility. Bobst suggested the layout plan of the floor for the correct installation of the machine with minimum vibrations. It provides us with 24/7 service and even in a city like Vapi, the engineers are able to provide service within 24 hours.”
Currently, Nimbus is operating the Expertfold in a single shift. Dayama said, “The speed of operation of Expertfold is so fast that a 12-hour operation is equal to a 24-hour operation of die-cutting. We are running the machine at an average speed of 1,25,000 cartons/hour. We can easily run it at 1,50,000, but the handling of the finished cartons at the delivery-end becomes difficult.”
Commenting on the ease of use of the Bobst machines, Dayama said, “With one Allen key, the complete makeready of Expertfold can be achieved which has resulted in the quick changeover of the jobs”
Besides the Bobst machines, Nimbus has a new five-colour Komori Lithrone G40 with LED UV curing, laminator, window patching machine, E and F flute corrugation machine, flute laminator, and an array of quality testing equipment. Just recently, Nimbus installed the iEcho digital sample maker and a pre-press software EngView and PaSharp from Emerging Graphics.
Nimbus manufactures mono-duplex cartons, E, N, F fluted boxes, liner cartons along with blister boards, leaflets, three-ply to five-ply boards. It caters to pharma, stationery, FMCG, and confectionary industries amongst others. Ankit Gupta, partner at Nimbus, said, “We want to keep our options open. Managing different segments helps us cope with the non-seasonal demands.”
Gupta added, “Within three months of operation, we received ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 15378: 2015 and ISO 22000 certification. From the initial stages of building the plant, we made sure it is built as per the compliance of ISO standards.”
Nimbus achieved Rs 18-crore turnover in FY 2016-17 and has scaled it up to Rs 25-crore in the next year. The top management hopes to scale new heights through automation and adopting new age technologies.

Vapi – The location advantage
The partners said, “Vapi is considered to be one of the most important strategic locations across India. Raw materials such as inks are easily accessible due to the presence of ink manufacturers like Hubergroup and Hitech. Even major paper mills are located within Gujarat. And since packaging companies like Parksons, Temple Packaging, Borkars surround us, service engineers are available round the clock. Also, supply to Mumbai doesn’t take much time, since Vapi is 150kms from Mumbai."
