Nirmala Sitharaman to be chief guest at IIP's convocation programme

Nirmala Sitharaman, honourable minister of the state for commerce and industry, Government of India, will be the chief guest for the 29th annual convocation programme of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP). The convocation programme for the post graduate diploma students in packaging will be held on 7 November, 2015 at the campus of the IIP institute, Mumbai.

Dr R B Grover, vice chancellor, Homi Bhabha National Institute, Deemed University and Rajani Ranjan Rashmi, additional secretary, the ministry of commerce and industry will be among the guest list.
 
Dr N C Saha, the director of Indian Institute of Packaging, said, “With academic block space of 70,000 sq/ft, the institute, has the intention to occupy one-half of the top floor for an auditorium for convocation and the other half for an international packaging centre.”
 
During the IIP's World Packaging Congress (WPC), held in Mumbai at Powai's Hotel Renaissance on 9-10 October, Rajani Ranjan Rashmi spoke about how the Indian Institute of Packaging can play a larger role in shaping packaging technology. He hoped it diversify into other ventures besides being a premier institute for packaging education and research. He explained the role of the government; and how incentives for growth and development does not always work. He felt the packaging industry should start getting organised and set their priorities right.
