Speaking to PrintWeek India, Suprotik Das, managing director, Nordson India, said, “This partnership with Welbound makes a lot of sense at this juncture. We believe Welbound’s binding kit, combined with Nordson’s gluing solutions, will provide Indian book printers with the top of the line equipment cost-effectively. The robust after sales support of Welbound is an added advantage.”

Welbound’s new bookbinding machines will be come with Nordson kit and the current install base will have an alternative to get the new kit retrofitted on the existing machines.

“We had evaluated many offerings in the market before this partnership,” said K C Sanjeev managing director of Welbound. “Nordson was the choice because of its global experience, plus the local team in India. We are confident that the recent future will see extensive conversions to PUR.”

Welbound’s WB 3600, 12-clamp binder will offer Nordson AltaPail 20-litre melters with either roller type or slot-die applicators, based on the customer requirement. The WB 3600 will be equipped with Nordson’s EP 48 slot coaters, which are also available to be retrofitted on inline binders.

Recently, the Nordson-Welbound team retrofitted these applicators on a Wohlenberg City Binder in S Chand’s Rudrapur plant.

During PrintPack 2015, Nordson will launch PUReOne books-on demand solution in India with the Welbound PUR Standard 350 machine.

PUReOne for single clamp binders comes with benefits of having a gear pump system as against a pressure pot system that is common.

“Benefits are volume compensation, snuff back technology for precise adhesive cutoff and minimal influence of viscosity change in the binding process. We will be offering this system instead of the Italian applicators with pressure pots that we were offering earlier,” said Suresh Nair, product head and regional manager at Welbound, adding, “This will lead to minimal PUR waste due to curing, absolute control on the coat weight, easy head and tail cut offs and minimal worries on maintenance.”

Nordson will implement a special training programme for certified PUR Hotmelt operators at its Bengaluru centre. “We will be offering this to the existing and future Welbound customers so that they can adopt best practices while handling our equipment. In addition to other training programmes run by Welbound and Henkel, these Nordson training modules will equip operators and customers to derive the best out of this technology.”
