Huhtamaki PPL books Omet iFlex
Weldon Celloplast, the Indian representative of Italian narrow-web flexo printing press manufacturer Omet, has announced its first sale of Omet iFlex label printing press on the first day of Labelexpo India 2016. Huhtamaki PPL has booked the machine for its new plant in India.
Harveer Sahni of Weldon Celloplast said, “This is the first time when we are exhibiting the machine after Labelexpo Europe 2015. This deal shows that our machines are capable to meet the demand of giant like Huhtamaki PPL. We may announce a second deal for the machine during the show. There may be more.”
According to the company, the iFlex is simple-to-use and quick at setup. It also contains several innovations to ease a printer’s work, including laser-assisted pre-register and register setting devices that speed up the machine setup and rebooting after job change.
According to Omet sources, iFlex has shortest web path in narrow-web printing for savings in the start-up phase. It can produce saleable print with the waste of 20m labelstock. The machine handles a wide range of sizes, from 5.5 to 18-inches.
Presently, around 20 Omet narrow-web flexo presses are operational in India. New installations include Dehradun-based Zircon Technologies, Hyderabad-based Arunodaya Print Pack and Noida-based Any Graphics.
Huhtamaki PPL has fully integrated manufacturing facilities at Ambernath, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Khopoli, Navi Mumbai, Parwanoo, Rudrapur, Silvassa, Taloja and Thane.
Insight Graphics to resurrect label operations with new Omet iFlex
Four months after the Kolkata-based Insight Graphics’ label division was gutted in fire, resurrection has already begun with the firm buying an Omet iFlex narrow-web flexo press on Day Two of Labelexpo India 2016. The machine showcased at Omet’s stand will be installed at Insight Graphics’ Kolkata facility, confirmed Ashish Shah, director, Insight.
Shah said, “We needed to re-start immediately. I was looking for an entry-level machine with minimum of eight-colour configuration with cold foil stamping, relam-delam units and die stations. In that sense, Omet’s iFlex was a perfect fit for my requirement.”
Insight Graphics, which started as a pre-press bureau in 2000, gradually venturing into offset printing of labels, made an entry into labels with a secondhand Mark Andy in 2012. In a fire accident on 13 August 2016, all the equipment, including the Mark Andy and slitters and fladbed die-punching machines were destroyed.
The machine finalised by Shah is a 10-colour iFlex with cold foil unit, relam-delam and two die-cutting stations.
Shah visited Omet’s factory in Italy to evaluate the working of iFlex in the first week of November.
He added, “I was impressed with iFlex. Even though it’s an entry-level machine, it has higher degrees of automation than its counterparts. I liked the iLight feature, which is a laser light for instant print cylinder re-registration, and the operator just needs to follow the light of the laser and replace the cylinder in the correct position, simply by matching the laser beam. It makes the operation extremely simple.”
Omet is represented in India by Weldon Celloplast.
