OPA also decided that it will increase print rates by 15%.
Parveen Aggarwal, president of OPA, said, “Through the protest and representation, we wanted to draw the attention of the authorities to the Essential Commodities Act 1955 in which all kind of paper are declared as an essential commodity. By this logic it is the duty of the government to come to the rescue and check any undue increase in the prices of the Paper and Paperboard by the mills/dealers.”
Ludhiana is a packaging town with more than 90% printers supplying card board or/and corrugated boxes only. “Since we don't have any control on the mills we are constrained to increase the prices our print-packaging jobs,” said Kamal Chopra, a committee member of OPA.
Chopra however is sceptical about implementation of the price increase by the printers. “The increase may not be a practical solution, but with the notice of OPA in hand, our member can negotiate for the possible increase depending upon customer to customer.”
