Packaging summit highlights impact of Covid

The fourth annual edition of Packaging Quality and Innovations India Summit was held on 22 and 23 February 2022. The two-day event highlighted the impact of Covid-19 on the packaging industry. Other topics included packaging supply chain optimisation, Indian packaging regulations, digitalising labels, and more.

The first day featured Avinash Bangale of Mamata Machinery; Pritee Chaudhary of FSSAI; Diwaker Bharadwaj of Polycab India; Paul E Prakash of Pidilite Industries; Harshad Kothawade of Merck Life Science; Pramod Patil of Wockhardt and Sitanshu Sekhar of Emami Agrotech, among others.
 
Sridhar Janardhana, head, of packaging, at Marico, said, “While eCommerce and digitalisation continue to boom, brands are keener for sustainable packaging materials and designs.”
 
Ravi Kiran, business director of Valco Melton Engineering India, mentioned how the company aims to bring innovation, sustainability, and lower carbon footprints to the end of line packaging process.

The second day of the summit focused on topics, such as innovation, quality management, eco-friendly packaging, and more.

The audience got to listen to experts such as Anil Dharmadhikari of General Mills; Anurag Bhaskar of Fonterra Future Dairy and Subhra Nandi of Guiltfree Industries; Tejashree Joshi of Godrej & Boyce; Anurag Mishra of Wilmar International; Subhra Nandi of Guiltfree Industries and many such well-known industrialists.

Ayaz Kagzi, vice-president, packaging development, Cavinkare, spoke on the role of packaging design in eCommerce and kept the audience engaged.

Kagzi spoke about the importance of secondary packaging for a good user experience. He also highlighted how packaging is evolving in the booming eCommerce era.

Since brands are implementing various models for sustainability, each session included a good overview of the topics. On day two this subject was covered briefly with a panel discussion on recyclable and biodegradable packaging and a session by Subhra Nandi, packaging head at Guiltfree Industries.

Nandi’s lecture covered the efforts required for implementing green packaging initiatives, the aim for resource-efficient manufacturing processes, and how we need to encourage sustainable sourcing of material.
