The way we measure up to the changing paradigm in the label business and the challenges that emerge may become the foundation for new ways of running a plant. It may include bringing in new technology that can up production as well as save on wastages, sustainable way of production or quick delivery.
Many label printers may however not know that these strategies may become the foundation for a profitable business.
To help label printers better understand the business potential in changing the way they operate and work, LMAI Conference 2015 held in Jaipur hosted a group of seven top label printers. The group shared their experiences during the panel discussion titled “Changing paradigm, emerging challenges on 17 July, 2015, the second day of the three-day conference.
Harveer Sahni, managing director of Weldon Celloplast moderated the panel discussion. Pragati’s Hemant Paruchuri, Update Print’s Rajesh Chadha, Zircon’s Sanjeev Sodhi, Webtech’s Amar Chhajed, Janus International’s Denver Annunciation, Ajanta Packaging’s Chandan Khanna, Sai Packaging’s Arvind Sekhar, and Global Packaging’s BK Manjunath were part of the panel.
“The idea was that of Gururaj ji Ballarwad, chairman of the conference 2015,” said Sahni. “Most of the printers feel that hearing suppliers is not that exciting because they can call the suppliers to their offices and ask anything, have individual presentations and one to one. They want to see how fellow printers react to problems and issues.”
Topics discussed during the panel discussion ranged from profitability to what’s the idea of growth, wastage to sustainability, conventional and digital, online bidding and start-ups and old guards to innovations in sales to personnel poaching.
Among the many questions asked, Sahni felt that the printers responded to the wastages and getting the right prices. These topics worry the printers the most, and it was nice to see these printers open up. “One thing for which they had no answer was poaching of marketing personnel and taking away the business. That will hurt any business,” said Sahni.
Ballarwad was elated with the success of panel discussion, which he felt may help those label printers who are looking to transform their business. “Discussing problems is part of the LMAI’s activities, and we are happy that there were many takeaways that emerged from the discussions.”
He added, “LMAI will continue to hold such session in its future conferences.”
