PCRI celebrates world packaging day
More than 150 packaging professionals and students gathered for the Packaging Clinic and Research Institute (PCRI) and Packaging Club’s 8th edition of world packaging day celebrations.

‘Environment-friendly packaging’ was the theme for the event held on March 24, 2019, at PCRI in Hyderabad.
Prof BK Karna, director, Packaging Club, said, “March 24 is such an apt date for the industry, as packaging is always ready to march for 24 - hrs. Packaging, along with its extending services such as the packaging materials is a major segment, and this day promotes packaging as a profession for mankind and its surroundings.“
Along with the world packaging day celebrations, Packaging Club and PCRI presented its Packaging Appreciation Award 2019 to appreciate packaging personalities for their valuable contribution to the packaging industry.
The award-winners included Rushikesh Aravkar, technical editor of PrintWeek India and WhatPackaging? for excellence in creating packaging-based news, and Jitendra Panda of Synergy Placement and Consultants for providing numerous packaging job opportunities, from India.
The international award-winners included Sparke Lee of China-based Smart Wasp Intelligent, for development of packaging machinery and Don Stadler, who studied at the Ohio State University in the USA, for packaging innovations.
At the event, food scientist, Dr Surinder Sood, said, “Packaging is the only way to save food from wastage.”
The event comprised of sessions from the top names of the Indian packaging industry such as Abdul Kheder of Corevalue Consulting, Avinash Talwar of DRL, IIP Alumni Manish Kumar, Narsimhan of Global Touchstone Commodities and A Srinivasa Rao, amongst others.
In addition to it, PGDP Students of PCRI presented sustainable packaging related papers.
Shekhar Dash, joint director, PCRI, concluded the event with the vote of thanks.
