The 75DI presses with variable data capability can be configured and customised with a number of inkjet heads according to each client’s needs.

“Using inkjet technology to add variable information to DI printed sheets in one pass opens the door to many new applications for DIprinters,” said Joe Demharter, vice president of sales, Presstek.“

This hybrid printing system combines two digital technologies to create one optimised system for addressing, numbering, bar coding, targeted promotional information and other variable data applications while still maintaining the ultra high quality and extreme automation that are signature DI press capabilities,” he added.

The Presstek 75DI is 29-inch (B2+) digital offset press that is available with a range of productivity enhancing options, including an inline aqueous coater. The company claims that support for 300 lpi and FM screening, 6-minutes from digital file to sellable sheet and a small environmental footprint are the salient features of the press. In addition, the press prints up to 16,000 six-up sheets per hour.

Presstek also asserts that an inkjet configured 75DI will support stock from 0.04 to 0.3mm at speeds of up to 10,000 sheets per hour. Currently each inkjet head has a printable width of 106mm and aresolution of 600x600 dpi.

Asked what these changes would offer the printers, Demharter said, “By adding variable data functionality to the Presstek 75DI we have expanded the range of capabilities that commercial printers can realise from the low cost per page and the high quality of DI waterless printing to now include the flexibility of adding unique personalised information to each sheet.”

In Drupa, Presstek has also been demonstrating its inline colour management and sheet inspection system Virtuoso Print Quality Systemon the Presstek 75DI press. Presstek believes that Virtuoso enhances the innate quality of the Presstek 75DI by performing a complete inspection of each sheet as it passes through the press at full speed.

“The 75DI already delivers world-class colour quality for fast turn short-run printing. With the addition of Virtuoso, we are raising the bar relative to the complete automation of the quality control process. Especially for companies who may be having difficulty finding journeyman offset press operators, the highly automated Presstek 75DI, combined with Virtuoso, will allow the use of less skilled operators while still delivering outstanding results,” said Mark Sullivan, group product director - digital printing, Presstek.
