CD Kumarvel, president of Coimbatore Master Printers Association, in a TV interview said, part of the conference agenda was to support the student fraternity. “A computer costs Rs 30,000 while the software is Rs one-lakh or so. Today software are licensed at high prices, hosted on the cloud, which means it has to be run using the Internet. All this has become an expensive affair.”
Kumarvel added, the cost of the software varies from state to state. He gave the example of CorelDraw, and said the software is sold at different prices in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
“Under the circumstances, our advice to the students will be – use free software available in the market,” said Kumarvel.
The conference was attended by printers from Coimbatore and Kanchipuram.
