The company shifted from treadle to offset in 2004 and now runs an Autoprint press. It prints visiting cards, letterheads, bill books, leaflets, account registers and so on. Arun Kumar Randhar now runs the press after his elder brother shifted to Delhi.
One of his sons is abroad and and another is in the neighbouring state. Both do not want to come to the town, and since the printing business here has no growth, they do not have any interest in the work as well. Randhar says the industry has changed a lot but Najibabad.
As big cities like Meerut, Dehradun and Moradabad are only 100 kms away from the town, big jobs are outsourced to these cities. “If we get huge work, which is rare, then we go to Delhi, which is less than 200 kms away. Connectivity is good via road.
Outsourcing is good for a printer like us as we don’t need to invest in everything,” he says. In Najibabad, Randhar says, most printers have 10x15-inch press, while it has a 15x20-inches press. Imported Chinese models are also in the town as they are easily available and more economical.
The raw materials for printing come from Meerut, Delhi, Saharanpur and Dehradun, as per printers’ convenience. “We don’t have any printers’ body in the city. A few people tried to establish one but couldn’t succeed,” he says.
