The informed and opinionated judges closeted in different segments looked at the samples and with each of the entries, discussed and dialogued about which of the samples were good enough for getting an award.

Indrajit Gupta, editor, Forbes India

The samples were impressive. As a publishing group, we do a lot of printing. That’s the reason I requested the organisers to let my print designers see the samples in the evening after the jury session concluded.

Anisha Heble, partner, Ka Designs

It was very well-organised event and as the day proceeded one gained valuable insights into the print process. The Fine Art category was exquisite. One of the entries was a work of art. It made me notice the nuances in fine print.

Mukund Moghe, group corporate affairs, Tata Services

The Brochure category was an eye-opener. I saw a print sample which reproduced pink and green. For me, this sample set the quality standard for the Awards. There was a dazzling array of colour which I had never seen before.

Soma Roy, packaging development executive, Kansal Nerolac Paints
Overall I was impressed with the work on display, but the one I was particularly impressed with was a print where use of metallic ink was appropriate and not overdone. I will share some of these ideas with my production team.

Madhu Reddy, senior vice president, Orient Blackswan
At Orient Blackswan we publish a lot of book titles which includes science, technical and management lists. The print samples helped understanding all the things a good printer needs to deliver from a print buyer’s perspective.

Arpana Mehta, copy supervisor, creative, Ogilvy & Mather
The event transported me to a world of innovative print applications with interesting visuals and design. Some of the creative repro work was superbly re-worked. The images had a balance between half tones, shadow and depth.

Shyam Patnaik, AVP Projects, Laqshya Media
I was pleased to see that printers are providing more quality and uniqueness in their presentation. They are keeping the concept, design, intended audience and stated goals of the brands in the reckoning.

Runali Sawant, regional packaging development senior executive, Hindustan Unilever
I spent a great deal of time talking to my fellow judges while browsing through the entries in Packaging, Label and Digital. I feel printers were breaking the rules, and innovating. Some of the work, I saw, was game-changing.

Shrirang Sahasrabudhe, operations manager, Ergo India
Most of the packaging products on display demonstrated the important link in the chain that’s so important – a level of cooperation between product, design, manufacturing and printing. I was impressed.

Shireesh Sabnis, production controller, Publicis Ambience
It was great to know that the participants are not only from Mumbai and Delhi but from print hubs all over the country. The potential for the printing industry is huge when one considers the quality of applications.

The winners will be unveiled on 26 August at the Awards ceremony at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. Tickets are now available for the PrintWeek India Awards ceremony.
