PrintPack 2019: HB Fuller to introduce two new hotmelt adhesives for bookbinding application

Harsh Gupta, regional GM – India, ME & E, HB Fuller, said, “The Indian bookbinding industry is expected to be worth Rs 739 billion by 2020, largely attributable to improved literacy rates and an increase in the number of educational institutions, driven by government initiatives to implement the Right to Education Act.”

He added, “The resulting increase in volume demand has encouraged printers and publishers to invest in perfect binding solutions, leading to shorter turnaround times. Aiding this effort of reinventing the face of bookbinding in India, HB Fuller is excited to introduce two innovative hot melt adhesives – Swifttherm 8048 and Swifttherm Advantage 8000.”

The Swifttherm 8048 is an EVA-based hotmelt developed and manufactured in India. It addresses the unique challenges posed by the Indian climate.

“It provides excellent heat- and cold-resistant properties, high adhesive strength in both softcover and hardcover publications, proven performance on all machine speeds, and compatibility with a wide range of application methods, which make this product a versatile and effective adhesive for the Indian market,” explained Gupta.

The Swifttherm Advantage 8000 is the metallocene hotmelt spine adhesive for softcover books and magazines. This adhesive is designed by HB Fuller scientists in Blois, France.

“This innovative adhesive closes the performance gap between traditional EVA hotmelts and PUR hotmelt technologies. It offers an odour-free application with excellent adhesion on high-quality paper stock. Having very low density, this adhesive can be used effectively in relatively low quantities. Binderies using traditional EVA hotmelt adhesives can upgrade their binding performance without the need to invest in additional equipment, making it an economical solution for all perfect binding units. This product also provides the heat- and cold-resistance properties necessary in the Indian climate,” said Gupta.

With 25 days to go, the countdown to the PrintPack India 2019 has begun. The six-day show with more than 415 exhibitors and over 22,546 sqm of booked floorspace is set to commence on 1 February 2019 at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida.
