PrintPack 2025: HP Indigo celebrates 25th B2 digital press milestone in India
HP Indigo is using the PrintPack 2025 platform to celebrate the country's 25th installation of its B2 digital presses. What's particularly noteworthy is that over 50% of these installations have come from tier-II, -III, and -IV cities, challenging the conventional wisdom that digital print growth is concentrated in the major metros.

"We are seeing tremendous growth in digital print adoption across India, not just in the big cities but also in smaller towns and cities," said A Appadurai, country business manager - Indigo and inkjet business solutions at HP. Appadurai noted that cities like Saharanpur now have two B2 digital presses installed, highlighting the increasing demand for digital print capabilities even in non-metro regions.
During a conversation with PrintWeek, Appadurai discussed the versatility of digital print technology, which he said, is a key driver of this growth. “Indigo customers are leveraging the presses to produce a wide range of applications, from general commercial printing and specialised security projects to personalised books-of-one and innovative packaging solutions for startups.” Appadurai added, "We're seeing photo customers also doing general commercial work, and commercial printers branching out into photo and packaging.”
This diversification is particularly important in a market like India, where print service providers need to cater to a wide range of customer needs, from large enterprises to small businesses and startups. The recent introduction of the Indigo 100K model is further transforming the economics of digital print. Offering higher productivity and lower costs, Appadurai believes digital will become an essential technology for every print service provider in India within the next five years.
"Every single printing company in India will have at least one digital press, whether it's an Indigo or another brand," he predicted. "The combination of versatile applications, intelligent automation, and improved economics is a game-changer for the industry."
Beyond technology, digital printing is crucial to enabling more sustainable business models. The ability to produce books-of-one and on-demand packaging helps reduce waste and environmental impact, a growing priority for both brands and consumers.
"If you don't do book-of-one, then you're not doing good for the environment," Appadurai said. "You waste so much. That's where the whole concept of digital print comes in - it allows us to democratise high-quality, sustainable packaging and printing solutions for businesses of all sizes."
The integration of AI and intelligent automation is further revolutionising the design and printing process, enabling more personalised content creation, predictive maintenance and seamless workflow integration. Appadurai explained. "The power of our computing and software capabilities is what allows us to automate the entire printing ecosystem intelligently."
With the 25th milestone installation, HP Indigo is doubling down on its commitment to enabling growth, innovation and sustainability in the Indian print market. “As the country's print landscape continues to evolve, digital technologies like Indigo will play an increasingly vital role in empowering businesses of all sizes to thrive,” concluded Appadurai.
