At PrintPack 2025, Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems is showcasing a cutting table from the Kongsberg X range, the X20. This machine is designed to cater to the needs of the packaging industry, where packaging must endure the entire shelf life of a product.

Rafiq Shaikh, sales and service leader at Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems explained that “Packaging must last for the product’s entire shelf life, and this need has emerged due to the increasing clutter in the market. Today, numerous brands, variants, and flavours are available, so companies are looking for packaging solutions that can maintain their integrity throughout the product's shelf life. The key focus here is brand recall, which is crucial for success.”

Shaikh elaborated on the materials typically used in the packaging industry. He said, “Companies are seeking packaging that can withstand the product's entire shelf life. When considering durability and flexibility, the two main materials that come into play are corrugated cardboard and rigid boxes. For premium products, rigid boxes are often chosen, while corrugated cardboard is typically used for more basic packaging and lower-quality items.” As such, the ability to cut a variety of materials accurately and efficiently is critical.

To meet these challenges, Kongsberg has introduced the X20 table, equipped with a special tool called CorruSpeed. Shaikh said, “This shift from folding cartons to these two materials presents a challenge, particularly when it comes to cutting applications. To address this, we introduced the X20 table with a special tool called CorruSpeed. This tool is capable of cutting a wide range of materials, from paper to corrugated cardboard and kappa board. It’s especially beneficial for start-ups looking to diversify, as they don’t need to invest in new tools or learn complicated processes. This versatility makes the X20 an ideal solution for many applications, and it’s also future-proof, as it can be upgraded to include features such as a board feeder for automation.”

The introduction of the X20 table also reflects Kongsberg’s understanding of the evolving demands of the Indian market. Shaikh noted, “We’ve launched this table to help expand horizons for the Indian market, where sample-making has become increasingly important due to the rise of automatic machinery, including robotics, in the packaging industry. As robots take on the task of placing packaging, the precision of that packaging becomes vital. Our solution provides this accuracy, whether it’s in foldability or box formation. This is where Kongsberg stands out from the competition.”

Kongsberg has been making an impact in the country. Shaikh said, “Across India, we have over 250 installations, and our goal is to be a reliable product for the industry. Once customers purchase from us, they often stay loyal, returning because of the reliability, trust, and performance our machines provide. I don’t believe any other company in the packaging industry can offer the same level of service and performance as we do. This is where we want to position ourselves: a brand that stands for reliability, performance, and excellent service.”
