PrintWeek’s August cover wows industry veterans
The response to PrintWeek India’s latest issue special cover produced on the MGI Jetvarnish has been stupendous. The golden PrintWeek India masthead details Jetvarnish’s iFoil technology, digital spot UV and embossed effects which create a lasting impression.
But what has wowed the industry is the name personalisation on the PrintWeek cover for more than 11,000 regular readers of the print magazine.

Noel D'cunha, managing editor of PrintWeek India said, "The print element of a campaign can often be the last thing that brand and marketing professionals think about. Therefore in a Facebook and Instagram-first world this print cover caused a big surprise among readers of PrintWeek India."

Designed primarily for the digital print market, the Jetvarnish 3DS with iFoils can produce ‘normal’ spot coating as well as a high-build effect of up to 100 microns (or the 200 microns using two passes) or using field upgradable second row of inkjet heads.
Once the covers were printed on a four-colour press, outsourced by Konica Minolta to one of their Delhi Customer, the job was shifted to the Konica Minolta demo centre in Gurgaon, where the lamination and subsequent print enhancements were rendered on the MGI JetVarnish press. The covers were then sent to Kala Jyothi for binding.
Prasad Gangurde, production manager, Haymarket Sac, stated, "The combination of MGI’s inkjet technology with Konica Minolta’s drop-on-demand Piezoelectric print heads enables lines as small as 0.5mm or as wide as the sheet."
Gangurde added, regarding applications, embossed foiling is the most popular effect among end customers. There are two ways of embossing coupled with foiling. One which can print a thicker varnish layer and then subsequently do foiling on it. However, most of the foils are not scuff resistant. So, to protect the foils from abrasion, the machine can do foiling first followed by a thick layer of varnishing.
With iFoils, the user can do foil-on-foil and two or more than two foils can be applied on a sheet to create more effects to fascinate the user.
According to a Konica Minolta spokesman person, "The MGI kit has this uncanny ability to spot varnish on toner and offset prints with and without lamination, making print workflows more flexible and easier." He added, "This combined with the variable data option adds full personalisation capabilities for maximum one-to-one marketing impact.”
