PrintWeek Awards 2023: Holostik India wins Most Challenging Project of the Year (Joint Winner)
Holostik has developed a smart windshield label for Ivesur Paraguay, a service-based company that operates in the vehicle inspection sector, focusing on road safety and the environment.

The label combines security printing, holography and digital barcode, making it safe from replication and allowing digital functionality, for example, access to the vehicle information.
The complex design process required an unconventional artwork approach as the text and graphics were meant to be printed at the underside of the label. Improving text and graphic visibility on the label was yet another challenge, as the printing was done on a transparent substrate. Implementing spot holographic transfer, reverse barcode printing, and alpha-numeric sequential numbering further added complexity. This had to be thoroughly monitored, as a single misprinting or error could have ruined the entire label series. Other security features were included since the label had to be secure against replication.
To print the text on the underside of the substrate, the texts, Ivesur Paraguay and Inspeccion Technica Aprobada had to be designed in reverse, which was a tedious task. A clear-on-clear film was used as a substrate. The label material was loaded onto a flexographic printing press, and the reverse printing process was applied. Spot holographic transfer was done at registered space, a process requiring high technical precision. The reverse printing of barcodes and serial numbers was executed after trial runs so as to mitigate errors in serialised printing. The background of the transparent substrate was coated white to improve visibility. The job concluded with the application of adhesive, die-cutting and slitting before being sent for a quality check.
