PrintWeek Awards 2024: CDC Printers wins MSME Company of the Year
Manu Choudhury of CDC Printers is a busy print master. For one, he never says no to a knowledge-sharing session. Be it the BMPA’s share-to-benefit forum or interacting with students. He is always seeking new creative methods to push the boundaries of traditional printing techniques.

The second-generation, Rochester-trained printer from Kolkata tries to simplify the print process so that the press can inspect printed materials for defects, ensuring consistent quality across production runs. Choudhury is also adept at detecting imperfections such as misprints, colour inaccuracies, or alignment errors. He feels all this can help maintain high standards and reduce the likelihood of costly reprints.
Needless to say, a lot of what Choudhury has been planning in the coffee shops of Kolkata has fructified. That is why the Kolkata-based company is the MSME Company of the Year.
The company, which bagged four Prisms in 2023, has won the Prism this year because of how astutely it has leveraged benefits for its business. CDC Printers has been successful in how its customers have aligned its workflow. This has enabled task completion in a fraction of the time it takes with conventional methods. The company houses 35 machines, which include a raft of web offset presses with multiple cutoffs, and a series of multicolour printing machines.
What impressed the jury members was how the company has incorporated automation, customisation, and innovation in its 1.5-lakh sqft factory. In the print and packaging business, it means three things.
One, implementing an Amazon Customer System for a brick-and-mortar business, and striving to create a 24-hour delivery schedule for the customer.
Two, allaying the customer’s pain points about new product developments, and soft copy and hard copy approval. The company binds 250-300 titles in-house, per month. Even with that volume, no customer stays in the dark.
Three, CDC’s on-time delivery performance is 92% week-on-week. Notably, 30 containers are shipped to Africa and Europe monthly.
All this has meant robust financial performance. Ergo, MSME Company of the Year.
